This is the next post of our new series, “My CaseIT Story!” Throughout the year we will be inviting past/ current CaseIT organizing committee members to write a post about their journey. This week we bring to you Esther Chou, Team Host from CaseIT 2013!
I’m a third year student concentrating in accounting and possibly management information systems. I joined CaseIT 2013 as a team host partially because I wanted to be more engaged in student organizations at Beedie and partially because I wanted to be connected with the global business community. Through hosting teams from HEC Montréal (Montreal, Canada) and Binus University (Jakarta, Indonesia), I was able to expand my professional network and also develop lasting friendships. Similarly, by being involved in the planning of CaseIT, I not only enhanced my project management skills, but I also built connections with companies in the local community, as I secured in-kind sponsorship for CaseIT. Since CaseIT is centered on a case competition, one perk of being a team host is watching top business students from around the world present their recommendations to a business problem. This in turn provided me with strong foundation in case competitions and inspired me to be driven and win the Peak Performance Case Competition here at SFU. A favorite moment of mine occurred at the corporate function on the second night. In addition to networking with leading MIS industry professionals at the Vancouver Aquarium, schools were required to introduce themselves in a creative fashion. Several of the performances were hilarious and still make me chuckle to this day. My CaseIT week was definitely action packed and involved minimal sleep, but it was definitely a highlight of my undergrad experience. I encourage all of you to apply and begin your CaseIT journey!
