CaseIT 2019 Organizing Committee Applications

Each year, the Beedie School of Business welcomes dedicated, driven students from around the globe to compete at CaseIT—an international MIS Case Competition hosted at the Beedie School of Business. This competition provides an opportunity for students from around the world to build confidence and put their business acumen to the test by analyzing business cases, developing creative solutions, and presenting to corporate executives.

OUR CASEIT TEAM IS THRILLED TO BE WELCOMING UP TO 26 NEW MEMBERS TO OUR ORGANIZING COMMITTEE THIS OCTOBER, AND WE HOPE THAT YOU WILL BE ONE OF THEM!

IMPORTANT DETAILS

All interviews will be held September 29 to October 6, 2018
All position terms are from October 2018 to March 2019
All applicants must attend the CaseIT Competition Week of February 17th to 22nd, 2019

Team Host | 16 Positions Available

Team Hosts stand on the frontlines of CaseIT, ensuring that competing teams from around the world are well-equipped to tackle every aspect of the competition week. Using their positivity, charm, and quick-thinking, they proactively understand the needs of competitors and remain organized under high pressure, competitive situations. Each Team Host is highly perceptive and understands the importance of escalating issues when necessary. Team Hosts are also motivated by meeting new people, learning about different cultures, and engaging in a positive, thoughtful manner with competition stakeholders–ultimately building an exceptional impression of CaseIT, SFU Beedie, and Vancouver!

Commitment required:

  • Must attend CaseIT 2019 Team Host Onboarding from 10 AM – 4 PM on October 21st, 2018
  • Must attend CaseIT 2019 Team Host Training from 10 AM – 3 PM on November 25th, 2018
  • Must attend CaseIT 2019 OC Team Session from 5 PM – 7 PM on November 25th, 2018
  • Must attend CaseIT 2019 Team Host Training from 10 AM – 3 PM on January 19th, 2019
  • Must attend CaseIT 2019 OC Team Sessions (3 hours per week) from January – February, 2019
  • Must attend CaseIT 2019 Competition Week from February 17th – 22nd, 2019
  • Must attend additional Working Sessions (as required) to complete assigned Team Host Project

Core responsibilities include:

  • Welcoming university teams to the beautiful scenery and culture of Vancouver as a team escort and participant in the Discover Vancouver day
  • Accountability for managing the overall competition experience for one of the competing universities at CaseIT
  • Ensuring your university team is well-equipped to tackle all aspects of the competition week, by completing tasks such as: accurately communicating competition rules, delivering meals, and escorting competitors to presentation rooms
  • Collaborating closely with another member of the Organizing Committee to lead and execute a project related to a functional area of CaseIT

Additional responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Ensuring clear, consistent, and accurate competition information is communicated to your university team in a timely manner before, during and after the official competition dates
  • Supporting your competing university through the emotional roller coaster of the CaseIT competition week, by encouraging, reassuring, and celebrating with the competitors and coach
  • Celebrating the achievements of all competing teams throughout the CaseIT competition week, and acting in a professional manner as an ambassador of Beedie
  • Leveraging your dedication and enthusiasm for CaseIT to create a memorable CaseIT experience through meaningful interactions with competitors and coaches

Additional qualifications:

  • Preference given to students with a Business Administration Major
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills in team environments
  • Ability to speak languages other than English is an asset, but not required
  • Dedication, commitment, and a positive attitude!

Competition Crew | 12 Positions Available

The Competition Crew ensures the seamless execution of the competition week, allowing competitors to focus less on when and where they need to be, and focus more on delivering their highest quality case deliberation and presentation. These jack-of-all-trades are competition chameleons, ready to embrace unforeseen roles and execute sound judgement while under pressure. Extremely detail-oriented, these team members identify opportunities to elevate the CaseIT experience, adding the final finesse that transforms the competition from great to ‘WOW’.

Commitment required:

  • Must attend CaseIT 2019 Competition Crew Onboarding from 10 AM – 4 PM on October 14th, 2018
  • Must attend CaseIT 2019 OC Team Session from 5 PM – 7 PM on November 25th, 2018
  • Must attend CaseIT 2019 Competition Crew Training from 10 AM – 3 PM on December 1st, 2018
  • Must attend CaseIT 2019 OC Team Sessions (3 hours per week) from January – February, 2019
  • Must attend CaseIT Presentation Training from 12 PM – 4 PM on January 20th, 2019
  • Must attend CaseIT 2019 Competition Week from February 17th – 22nd, 2019
  • Must attend additional Preparation Sessions (as required) with the Competition Execution Team

Each member of the Competition Crew will be accountable for executing more than one of the following roles during the CaseIT Competition Week:

  • Venue Logistics Coordinator Ensuring registration areas, place settings, equipment and stages for the Welcome Dinner and Awards Banquet event venues are set up prior to execution of event.
  • Deliberations Coordinator Assisting with all deliberation related tasks for the short and long cases, including case and deliberation materials delivery, food and beverage delivery, and technical support
  • Hospitality Coordinator Assisting with the compilation and delivery of hospitality-related components include competitor gifts, sponsor gifts, welcome packages, and judges packages
  • Presentation Room Coordinator Managing the case presentation room logistics, including providing the rules overview, timing presentations, and welcoming industry professional judges
  • Case Presentations Coordinator Ensuring all teams are in the right place at the right time, that presentation USBs and slide decks are ready to go, and escalating time-sensitive issues
  • Registration Coordinator Managing an organized flow of information and welcoming competitors, coaches, sponsors, students, judges, and industry professionals to each CaseIT event.
  • Usher Ensuring that all competition teams are abiding by competition rules by overseeing competitor holding rooms, judges holding rooms, and presentation areas, and communicating instructions to all stakeholders of the competition so that they understand exactly where and when they are expected to be during the competition week
  • Sponsor Supervisor Identifying and interacting professionally with sponsors and industry professionals, ensuring all questions are answered, informational materials are provided, and requests are fulfilled

  • Friendly yet assertive demeanor when communicating critical competition rules
  • Ability to remain calm, cool and collected in a high-stakes competition environment
  • An affinity for efficiency and executing according to schedule

A/V Crew | 2 Positions Available

The A/V Crew amplifies all presentation-worthy aspects of the competition, ensuring that each competitor, judge, and corporate sponsor is clearly heard and supported by captivating visuals. This individual is passionate about the creative application and seamless execution of all things technological, constantly striving to identify opportunities to elevate the competition. He or she also possesses an inextricable attention to detail, and leverages a tech-savvy nature to respond swiftly in the face of unanticipated, abrupt challenges.

Commitment required:

  • Must attend CaseIT 2019 Competition Crew Onboarding from 10 AM – 4 PM on October 14th, 2018
  • Must attend CaseIT 2019 OC Team Session from 5 PM – 7 PM on November 25th, 2018
  • Must attend CaseIT 2019 Competition Crew Training from 10 AM – 3 PM on December 1st, 2018
  • Must attend CaseIT 2019 OC Team Sessions (3 hours per week) from January – February, 2019
  • Must attend CaseIT 2019 Presentation Training from 12 PM – 4 PM on January 20th, 2019
  • Must attend CaseIT 2019 Competition Week from February 17th – 22nd, 2019
  • Must attend additional Working Sessions (as required) with the Director of Information

Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Collaborating with the Director of Information to identify all audio visual requirements for the competition week, including sound, presentation, and live stream equipment
  • Sourcing and negotiating with vendors for all required audio visual equipment
  • Serving as the onsite supervisor for audio visual needs throughout the CaseIT competition week, including case presentation submission, presentation projection and recording, and the presentation live stream
  • Transporting, setting up, operating, and dismantling audio visual equipment for CaseIT’s marquee events such as the Welcome Dinner, Awards Banquet, and Case Presentations

Additional qualifications:

  • Demonstrated capabilities in remaining calm and collaborating in a team environment under high pressure
  • Ability to be self-directed in a large-scale event, managing time and resources in an efficient manner
  • Previous experience in an A/V-related role, such as theatre or event production, is an asset
  • Access to a vehicle during CaseIT 2019 Competition Week is an asset

  • Immersive understanding of event management and execution processes
