The CaseIT 2019 Organizing Committee spearheads the planning and execution of CaseIT — North America’s premier international undergraduate MIS case competition, hosted by the Beedie School of Business. Each year, CaseIT welcomes dedicated, driven students from around the globe to build confidence and put their business acumen to the test by analyzing business cases, developing creative solutions, and presenting to corporate executives

CaseIT is thrilled to be welcoming up to 14 new members to our Organizing Committee this summer.

We invite YOU to be a part of a fast-paced, innovative, and resourceful team that is behind this exciting competition!

APPLICATION PROCESS

  1. Please download the CaseIT 2019 Organizing Committee application form. Applications and a copy of your most recent resume must be received prior to the application deadline of 11:59 PM on Wednesday, May 30, 2018.
  2. Applicants selected for an interview will be contacted on a rolling basis no later than 11:00 PM on Saturday, June 2, 2018.
  3. Interviews will be scheduled during the week of June 4, 2018. During the interview, each interviewee will be required to (1) complete a five-minute lesson on a topic they are passionate about, and (2) answer questions posed by the interview panel.
  4. Please note that Directors Orientation will be on Saturday, June 16, 2018.

Creative Director

The Creative Director masters the art of transforming imaginative ideas and concepts into a cohesive, professional visual experience. This individual sees beauty in detail and is captivated by the opportunity to ensure that every line, word, and image is placed on competition materials with purpose. The Creative Director is comfortable with challenging the status quo, stimulating thoughtful discussion, and also understands that the “packaging” of the competition is equally as valuable and impactful as the competition itself.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing and refining the competition branding book and materials to align with CaseIT 2019 vision and objectives
  • Designing professional documents that will be provided to external stakeholders, including sponsorship packages, university welcome packages, PIVOT 2019 programs, and impact summaries
  • Enhancing and managing visual assets on the CaseIT 2019 website and ensuring a smooth visual user experience across online platforms
  • Facilitating cross-team collaboration by managing the integration of the organizing committee’s photography, copy, and design contributions
  • Adding finesse and visual appeal to competition execution by ensuring all details—name tags, competitor schedules, signage, place-cards—are thoughtfully crafted

Additional qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge in Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator
  • Knowledge of WordPress, HTML, CSS & JavaScript
  • Keen eye for detail and design aesthetics

Controller

The Controller builds integrity and accountability into all aspects of CaseIT 2019’s financial operations. This individual rises to the challenge of optimizing allocation of the budget to derive the greatest value for competitors. Motivated by the opportunity to engage in structured, quantitative problem solving, the Controller is comfortable escalating potential budgetary issues, while also leveraging the budget to increase collaboration and alignment within the organizing committee.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring the integrity of competition operations by implementing and maintaining the core system for financial record keeping
  • Improving accountability of the competition and organizing committee by effectively processing invoices and cheques, and actively keeping track of outstanding accounts throughout the year
  • Managing the organizing committee’s ability to execute according to plan by efficiently documenting all cash inflows and outflows, monitoring the competition budget, and documenting budget actuals
  • Ensuring CaseIT 2019’s ethical accountability to competition stakeholders by performing audits of the competition’s financial operations throughout the year

Additional qualifications include:

  • Comfortably confident with quantitative and financial analysis

Director of Content Strategy

The Director of Content Strategy is the gatekeeper to all written content displayed to competition stakeholders. Professional, creative, and articulate, this individual is the primary voice for CaseIT, ensuring that all written content delivers a unique and consistent experience to external audience members. He or she is impeccably detail-oriented, ensuring that every word, line, and detail is written down with purpose and poise, accurately reflecting CaseIT’s brand identity and values.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading and overseeing the development of all competitor-facing materials, including welcome packages, participants’ packages, and blog posts
  • Managing and streamlining efforts across the organizing committee to maintain brand continuity and consistency through approving the design of internal and external competition documentation
  • Strategizing and delivering an online content strategy that effectively balances CaseIT competition promotions, celebration of other international competitions’ successes, and engagement of CaseIT competitors prior to, during, and after the competition
  • Developing and executing campaigns that share the excitement of CaseIT competitors, sponsors, team hosts, and organizing committee to competition stakeholders

Director of Internal Strategy

Director of Events

The Director of Events is responsible for planning and executing events that officially start and end-off the competition week with a WOW. This individual delves deep into event planning details to ensure that every moment is exceptional. The Director of Events creatively adapts while under pressure and executes sound judgement in the face of abrupt changes. Leading CaseIT 2019’s marquee events, he or she strives to build a positive, inspirational atmosphere that provides the optimal platform for some of the most anticipated moments during the competitors’ experience—including the case competition tier draw and the final rankings announcements.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading the planning and execution of CaseIT 2019’s signature opening and closingbanquets by securing venues, developing schedules, arranging speakers, choosingdecorations and managing seating plans
  • Creating an event schedule that distracts and de-stresses faculty advisors while teams arecompleting their deliberation period
  • Supporting the creation of organizing committee logistics that display when and wherethe team needs to be during the marquee events
  • Maintaining strong relationships with venue stakeholders and competing teams bymonitoring all accommodation information, arrangements, and logistics during banquets

Director of Hospitality

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Bridging the gap between venues and CaseIT’s vision to create an exceptional competitors experience by researching hotel options, negotiating costs and booking high quality accommodations for competitors, faculty advisors, and team observers
  • Ensuring a consistent, welcoming, and exciting competition atmosphere during the weekthrough creating unique and memorable experiences
  • Ensuring competitors and organizing committee members are well nourished to tackle any challenge they face by coordinating meal planning throughout competition deliberation periods

Director of Media

Since a picture is worth a thousand words, the Director of Media plays the integral role of bringing the CaseIT 2019 brand to life through both images and film.

  • Developing a visual identity that uniquely represents CaseIT 2019 and can be applied across all branding platforms including social media, sponsorship packages, and competition packages
  • Leading pre-competition engagement efforts through planning and delivering visual media campaigns that introduce key stakeholders of the competition on social media
  • Ensuring competitors and other stakeholders are actively engaged on social media throughout the competition by collecting, editing, and posting competition images in a timely manner
  • Supporting a multi-media approach to competition promotions through visualizing and coordinating the inclusion of videography into content strategies

Project Manager of PIVOT

The Project Manager of PIVOT is responsible for leading the planning and execution of CaseIT’s design-thinking conference, or “Ideathon,” welcoming over 110 local university students in its inaugural year. A true visionary with attention to detail, this individual is excited at the prospect of enabling CaseIT to not only engage with international competitors, but to also create interaction opportunities with local university students. He or she is ready to jump head first in bringing the Ideathon to life, from enhancing the PIVOT 2019 brand to liaising with key stakeholders and developing a master events schedule.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading the planning and execution of PIVOT, a design-thinking Ideathon by CaseIT through securing the venue, arranging sponsor involvement, overseeing registration process, and developing the competition structure
  • Ensuring that every student, stakeholder, and organizing committee member arrives on time and is well-prepared for each event component by leading the production of logistics and developing personalized schedules
  • Supporting the invitation and acquisition process of industry professionals who will be involved as Tech Mentors, judges, panelists, and booth sponsors
  • Collaborating with the marketing and brand management team to enhance the PIVOT 2019 brand and deliver a unique value proposition to key stakeholders

  • Sharing CaseIT culture beyond the organizing committee by developing a communications strategy that raises awareness and actively involves students at SFU and the Beedie School of Business into the competition

  • Leading the delivery of a cohesive CaseIT brand message across multiple social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and the CaseIT blog
  • Developing quantitative engagement reports using marketing analytics to derive key insights and make strategic recommendations on growing CaseIT’s online presence
  • Ensuring that all pertinent competition information is easy-to-access through social media channels, including competition schedules and presentation results

Director of University Relations

The Director of University Relations is on the frontlines of accurately communicating the CaseIT and SFU Beedie School of Business brand to international competitors and faculty advisors, which includes delivering an exceptional first and last impression of CaseIT 2019.   • Obtaining a diverse selection of competitors by researching national and international business schools, including those with MIS/IT/IS faculties or programs
  • Contacting select universities with information about attending CaseIT 2019 and compiling university, faculty advisor, and competitor details
  • Ensuring an effortless initial interaction with CaseIT 2019 by providing support to universities during registration and accommodation booking processes
  • Building competitors’ excitement prior to CaseIT 2019 by communicating relevant and timely competition information and updates
  • Ensuring competitors are provided ample support throughout the competition by developing a recruitment strategy for team hosts and contributing to team host onboarding
  • Creating a consistent competitor experience by overseeing the roles and responsibilities of team hosts during competition execution
  • Gauging the impact of CaseIT 2019 and providing recommendations for CaseIT 2020 by gathering and consolidating competitor feedback

Director of Logistics

The Director of Logistics is responsible for developing and executing a seamless event experience that allows competitors to focus less on when and where they need to be, and focus more on delivering their highest quality case preparation and presentation. This individual is serious about schedule, is meticulously detail-oriented, is effective at leading a team to execute according to plan, and exhibits a calm demeanour in the face of abrupt or unplanned challenges. The Director of Logistics’ ability to inject thoughtful details into the schedule will play a pivotal role in transforming competitors’ experience from great to WOW!

  • Determining how CaseIT 2019 can provide a world-class competition structure by researching best-in-class national and international case competitions
  • Ensuring that every competitor, coach, judge, stakeholder and organizing committee member arrives on time and well-prepared for each competition week activity by leading the production of logistics and developing personalized schedules
  • Managing the deliberation and presentation experience, ensuring flawless execution of critical high-stakes competition moments
