Controller

The Controller builds integrity and accountability into all aspects of CaseIT 2020’s financial operations. This individual rises to the challenge of optimizing allocation of the budget to derive the greatest value for competitors. Motivated by the opportunity to engage in structured, quantitative problem solving, the Controller is comfortable escalating potential budgetary issues, while also leveraging the budget to increase collaboration and alignment within the organizing committee.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring the integrity of competition operations by implementing and maintaining the core system for financial record keeping
  • Improving accountability of the competition and organizing committee by effectively processing invoices and cheques, and actively keeping track of outstanding accounts throughout the year
  • Managing the organizing committee’s ability to execute according to plan by efficiently documenting all cash inflows and outflows, monitoring the competition budget, and documenting budget actuals
  • Ensuring CaseIT 2020’s ethical accountability to competition stakeholders by performing audits of the competition’s financial operations throughout the year

Creative Director

The Creative Director orchestrates the creative vision and marketing strategy to ensure a world-class competition experience involving 300+ local and international competitors, coaches, industry professionals, and sponsor representatives. This individual will lead and cultivate the standards and foundations that align creative content with the year’s branding. Both analytical and charismatic, the Creative Director inspires a collaborative, ambitious, and determined Marketing Team that is focused on creative design, media, and branding. He or she is excited by the prospect of stepping outside their comfort zone, and by opportunities for personal and professional development provided by this role in CaseIT 2020.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Strategizing the creative vision and branding through collaboration with the Design, Media, and Content Strategy portfolios
  • Developing and refining the competition branding book and materials to align with CaseIT 2020 creative vision and objectives
  • Leading the ideation behind the development of professional documents that will be provided to external stakeholders, including sponsorship packages, university welcome packages, PIVOT 2020 programs, and impact summaries
  • Overseeing the visual assets on the CaseIT 2020 website and social media to ensuring a consistent and smooth visual user interface and experience across online platforms
  • Facilitating cross-team collaboration by managing the integration of the organizing committee’s photography, videography, copy, and design contributions
  • Ensuring finesse and visual appeal to competition execution by ensuring all details are thoughtfully critiqued

Director of Content Strategy

The Director of Content Strategy is the gatekeeper to all written content and loves to be challenged through thinking outside the box, delivering relevant, value-driven messages that engage a wide variety of CaseIT 2020 stakeholder audiences. Professional, creative, and articulate, this individual is the primary voice for CaseIT, ensuring that all written content delivers a unique and consistent experience to external audience members through digital and physical capacities. He or she loves to be challenged through thinking outside the box, delivering relevant, value-driven messages that engage a wide variety of CaseIT 2020 stakeholder audiences. Passionate about data with a mix of ingenuity, he or she is integral to building consistency and anticipation in CaseIT’s brand, maintaining a connection—even if continents away—with all students, competitors, and universities, as they diligently wait for the arrival of competition week.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading and overseeing the development of all competitor-facing written materials, including welcome packages, participants’ packages, and blog posts
  • Leading the delivery of a cohesive CaseIT brand message across multiple social media channels, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and the CaseIT blog
  • Managing and streamlining efforts across the organizing committee to maintain brand continuity and consistency through approving the design of internal and external competition documentation
  • Ensuring competitors and other stakeholders are actively engaged on social media throughout the competition by collecting, and posting competition images in a timely manner
  • Developing and executing campaigns that share the excitement of CaseIT competitors, sponsors, team hosts, and organizing committee to competition stakeholders
  • Utilizing marketing analytics to ensure that each message, caption, or image is posted with purpose and precision to derive key insights and make strategic recommendations on growing CaseIT’s online presence
  • Ensuring that all pertinent competition information is easy-to-access through social media channels, including competition schedules and presentation results
  • Creating brief written content on social media channels that creates buzz and excitement to capture the anticipation, intensity, and celebrations during competition week

The Director of Design is comfortable with challenging the status quo, stimulating thoughtful discussion, and also understands that the “packaging” of the competition is equally as valuable and impactful as the competition itself.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading a team of Design Associates in the creation of physical and digital visual assets to ensure a clear and professional depiction of CaseIT 2020’s creative direction
  • Developing and refining the competition branding book and materials to align with the CaseIT 2020 vision and objectives
  • Designing professional documents that will be provided to external stakeholders, including sponsorship packages, university welcome packages, PIVOT 2020 programs, and impact summaries
  • Adding finesse and visual appeal to competition execution by ensuring all details—name tags, competitor schedules, signage, place-cards—are thoughtfully crafted
  • Creating the CaseIT branding guideline so that there is accuracy among all visual assets
  • Working with external stakeholders to source and pick-up print material
  • Providing thoughtful critique on visual assets

Director of Events

The Director of Events is responsible for planning and executing events that officially start and end-off the competition week with a WOW. This individual delves deep into event planning details to ensure that every moment is exceptional. The Director of Events creatively adapts while under pressure and executes sound judgement in the face of abrupt changes. Leading CaseIT 2020’s marquee events, he or she strives to build a positive, inspirational atmosphere that provides the optimal platform for some of the most anticipated moments during the competitors’ experience—including the case competition tier draw and the final rankings announcements.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading the planning and execution of CaseIT 2020’s signature opening and closing ceremonies by securing venues, developing schedules, arranging speakers, choosing decorations and managing seating plans
  • Constructing an innovative way to enhance competitor experience by planning and executing a brand new opening ceremony that involves a corporate and personal networking opportunity for all CaseIT stakeholders
  • Consolidating information on all stakeholder meal selections and dietary restrictions
  • Supporting the creation of organizing committee logistics that display when and where the team needs to be during the marquee events
  • Planning the logistical details for the marquee events by educating and training all those involved to ensure a seamless event production
  • Maintaining strong relationships with venue stakeholders and competing teams by monitoring all accommodation information, arrangements, and logistics during banquets
  • Increasing future continuity of CaseIT by building, managing, and maintaining professional relationships with banquet venues

Director of Hospitality

The Director of Hospitality delivers unique experiences and high-quality accommodations that provide competitors with a warm welcome to Vancouver and the Beedie School of Business. This individual identifies activities that effectively balance enjoyment and competition, while enhancing the competitors’ overall experience throughout the entire week of CaseIT 2020. He or she is eager to demonstrate how CaseIT is unique and what makes CaseIT world-class through innovative competitor activity planning. Driven by the ability to not just add, but at also create value, he or she is confident in pitching CaseIT to external stakeholders and is excited by the opportunity to negotiate—for everything from dinner group rates to hotel accommodations.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Bridging the gap between venues and CaseIT’s vision to create an exceptional competitors experience by researching hotel options, negotiating costs and booking high quality accommodations for competitors, faculty advisors, and team observers
  • Ensuring a consistent, welcoming, and exciting competition atmosphere during the week through creating unique and memorable experiences
  • Ensuring competitors and organizing committee members are well nourished to tackle any challenge they face by coordinating meal planning throughout competition deliberation periods
  • Maintaining strong relationships with venue stakeholders and competing teams by monitoring all accommodation information, arrangements, and logistics
  • Creating a pre-competition event schedule that allows competitors to obtain an engaging glimpse into Vancouver and the Beedie School of Business

Director of Information

The Director of Information builds the illusion of simplicity into a seamless competition experience, ensuring that technical barriers do not interrupt competitors’ communication with the organizing committee. This individual is passionate about leveraging technology to drive efficiency and deliver value, moving swiftly in the fact of disaster to remedy technical issues. He or she opens the doors to communication with competitors by delivering a user-friendly website design and managing technology-supported communication channels during deliberation periods. Additionally, he or she develops systems that support the organizing committee.  

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Enabling the organizing committee to collaborate effectively through designing information systems that support both internal and competition stakeholders
  • Developing and managing an online competition portal that streamlines all communication and case-related activities between the organizing committee, competitors, coaches, and observers
  • Creating and monitoring an online chat channel for competitors to remain connected and raise issues during the competition execution
  • Selecting and implementing suitable technologies to streamline all internal operations and realize their strategic benefits
  • Programming and managing the CaseIT website to allow external stakeholders to stay informed on the development of the organizing committee and the competition

Director of Logistics

The Director of Logistics is responsible for developing and executing a seamless event experience that allows competitors to focus less on when and where they need to be, and focus more on delivering their highest quality case preparation and presentation. This individual is serious about schedule, is meticulously detail-oriented, is effective at leading a team to execute according to plan, and exhibits a calm demeanour in the face of abrupt or unplanned challenges. The Director of Logistics’ ability to inject thoughtful details into the schedule will play a pivotal role in transforming competitors’ experience from great to WOW!

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Determining how CaseIT 2020 can provide a world-class competition structure by researching best-in-class national and international case competitions
  • Ensuring that every competitor, coach, judge, stakeholder and organizing committee member arrives on time and well-prepared for each competition week activity by leading the production of logistics and developing personalized schedules
  • Managing the deliberation and presentation experience, ensuring flawless execution of critical high-stakes competition moments
  • Building a professional competition environment by securing presentation and judging room bookings prior to competition execution
  • Ensuring ease of transportation to and from competition venues and activities by researching, booking, and negotiating all transportation required during the competition week
  • Providing competitors opportunity to challenge their thinking and learn new approaches to problem solving by researching, communicating, and coordinating event speakers and judges

Director of Media

The Director of Media is impeccably skilled at being in the right place at the right time to capture the competitive spirit, energetic enthusiasm, and anxious anticipation throughout the competition experience. This individual has a keen desire to see the world through a different lens, determined to leverage a new, creative approach with each click of the shutter. Since a picture is worth a thousand words, the Director of Media plays the integral role of bringing the CaseIT 2020 brand to life through both photography and videography.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading a team of Media Associates in the creation of photography and videography to ensure a clear and professional depiction of CaseIT 2020’s creative direction
  • Developing a visual identity that uniquely represents CaseIT 2020 and can be applied across all branding platforms including social media, sponsorship packages, and competition packages
  • Leading pre-competition engagement efforts through planning and delivering visual media campaigns that introduce key stakeholders of the competition on social media
  • Capturing content on the organizing committee such as each individual team member and the ongoing processes that the team takes to run a world-class competition
  • Supporting a multi-media approach to competition promotions through visualizing and coordinating the inclusion of videography and photography into content strategies

Director of Sponsorship

The Director of Sponsorship is integral to securing the corporate interest, enthusiasm, and monetary support necessary to turn the organizing committee’s ideas into reality. This individual displays a mature, professional confidence and thinks on his or her feet to craft persuasive messages that align with the unique needs of each corporate sponsor. Articulate, energetic, and approachable, he or she reacts with optimism and tact in the face of rejection, while effectively representing and communicating the CaseIT and Beedie School of Business brand.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Acquiring monetary and in-kind sponsorship to ensure that the organizing committee has the resources available to run the competition to its full capacity
  • Aligning sponsorship requests to CaseIT 2020 goals, and reviewing and revising the current sponsorship package to match industry best practices
  • Retaining existing and obtaining new corporate sponsors by developing a partner relationship management strategy and sponsorship outreach strategy that leverages the organizing committees’ connections and capabilities
  • Developing and delivering a clear CaseIT 2020 value proposition, tailored to driving benefits and meet the needs of various types of sponsor organizations
  • Strategically prioritizing, contacting, and meeting in-person with potential sponsors, ensuring that each sponsor aligns with the values and vision of CaseIT 2020
  • Managing all relational touchpoints leading up to the competition and ensuring timely completion of contracted deliverables between CaseIT 2020 and corporate partners through implementing systems and procedures
  • Ensuring all corporate sponsors receive a consistent experience by acting as the main point of contact prior to, during, and after competition execution
  • Building lasting relationships with corporate sponsors by developing and providing post-competition impact summaries

The Director of Technology Management builds the illusion of simplicity into a seamless competition experience, ensuring that technical barriers do not interrupt competitors’ opportunities to prepare for the challenging competition and to shine on a global stage. This individual is passionate about leveraging technology to drive efficiency and deliver value during the presentations and marquee events, moving swiftly in the fact of disaster to remedy technical issues. He or she is the facilitator behind the implementation and development of all audio visual equipment to ensure the delivery of a world-class case competition experience to all stakeholders.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading a team of Technology Management Associates that focus on all things audio visual to ensure a seamless production during the week of CaseIT 2020
  • Enabling the organizing committee to collaborate effectively by sourcing and arranging transportation of audio visual equipment needed throughout the year
  • Ensuring competitors’ seamless experience during the competition by leading and tackling issues related to digital registration, projectors, electronic room timers, and other audio visual equipment
  • Supporting the delivery of high quality events throughout the week by overseeing tasks such as set-up and take-down of audio visual equipment
  • Providing the ability for stakeholders, spectators, and competitors’ families to view the final presentations and awards banquet by implementing a live-streaming solution

Director of University Relations

The Director of University Relations is on the frontlines of accurately communicating the CaseIT and SFU Beedie School of Business brand to international competitors and faculty advisors, which includes delivering an exceptional first and last impression of CaseIT 2020. This individual is a strong, articulate communicator both in writing and in-person, and is able to ease the international guests’ transition into the city and CaseIT 2020.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Obtaining a diverse selection of competitors by researching national and international business schools, including those with MIS/IT/IS faculties or programs
  • Communicating with select universities with information about attending CaseIT 2020
  • Work with the Marketing Team to create the University Relationship Package and the competitor VISA letters
  • Building competitors’ excitement prior to CaseIT 2020 by communicating relevant and timely competition information and updates
  • Improving competitor experience by innovating new engaging team challenges leading up to CaseIT 2020
  • Consolidating information on accommodation bookings, flight schedules, and compiling university, faculty advisor, and competitor details
  • Following-up with competing universities via email or phone
  • Creating a consistent competitor experience by overseeing the roles and responsibilities of team hosts during CaseIT 2020
  • Developing long-term relationships with competing universities to ensure their potential future involvement with CaseIT
  • Gauging the impact of CaseIT 2019 and providing recommendations for CaseIT 2020 by gathering and analyzing competitor feedback

Project Manager of PIVOT

The Project Manager of PIVOT is responsible for leading the planning and execution of CaseIT’s design-thinking conference, or “Ideathon,” welcoming over 110 local university students in its inaugural year. A true visionary with attention to detail, this individual is excited at the prospect of enabling CaseIT to not only engage with international competitors, but to also create interaction opportunities with local university students. He or she is ready to jump head first in bringing the Ideathon to life, from enhancing the PIVOT 2020 brand to liaising with key stakeholders and developing a master events schedule.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading the planning and execution of PIVOT, a design-thinking Ideathon by CaseIT or potentially spearheading and restructuring CaseIT’s Ideathon by implementing core attributes from similar external competitions
  • Securing the venue, arranging sponsor involvement, overseeing registration process, and developing the competition structure
  • Ensuring that every student, stakeholder, and organizing committee member arrives on time and is well-prepared for each event component by leading the production of logistics and developing personalized schedules
  • Supporting the invitation and acquisition process of industry professionals who will be involved as Tech Mentors, judges, panelists, and booth sponsors
  • Collaborating with the marketing and brand management team to enhance the PIVOT 2020 brand and deliver a unique value proposition to key stakeholders
  • Liaising with corporate sponsors to create value-adding event components and design workshops in correspondence with the PIVOT 2020 theme

Director of Internal Strategy

The Director of Internal Strategy plays an integral role in managing all internal communications, project deliverables, and task management across the organizing committee. Highly organized and eager to manage the intricacies between each portfolio, he or she enjoys tracking small details while keeping the big picture in mind. Passionate about building connections and fostering an internal culture of productive-fun, this individual is driven by the opportunity to creatively solve interpersonal challenges and to build a platform that supports open communication, collaboration, and commitment within the organizing committee.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Documenting key milestones, risks, decisions, and action items throughout organizing committee meetings and working sessions
  • Ensuring the organizing committee and sub-teams are equipped with appropriate working environments by scheduling and managing room bookings
  • Ensuring the Organizing Committee is well equipped to execute an exceptional competition week by managing communication channels and escalating issues leading up to, and during CaseIT 2020
  • Inspiring team cohesion and collaboration by arranging engaging social opportunities for the organizing committee
  • Developing a recruitment strategy for Associates, Team Hosts, and Competition Crew Members and contributing to the selection process
  • Reinforce team culture by coordinating timely check-ins with team members by collecting, combining, and summarizing organizing committee progress into formal status updates and identifying conflict, burnout, or other team challenges
  • Preparing the weekly meeting content by filtering the key deliverables that will keep the organizing committee well-informed with the development of CaseIT 2020
  • Conducting portfolio status reports to help the management team identify the progress of each portfolio

  1. Complete the CaseIT 2020 Director application form. Applications must be received prior to the application deadline of 11:59 PM on Tuesday, May 21, 2019.
  2. Applicants selected for interview will be contacted by Thursday, May 23, 2019.
  3. Interviews will be scheduled during the week of May 27, 2019. During the interview, each interviewee will be required to:
    • Complete a five-minute presentation on a topic that you are passionate about. If you are applying for Project Manager of PIVOT, please create a seven-minute presentation that shares your vision for CaseIT 2020’s design-thinking conference, PIVOT.
    • Answer questions posed by the selection panel.
