Saba – Sponsorship Executive for CaseIT 2016

Each week up until competition day we will be featuring one random Organizing Committee (OC) member who has worked with us since the beginning of CaseIT 2016.

This week we’re featuring Saba, a 3rd year student majoring in Business with concentrations in MIS and Operations Management with a Certificate in Business Analytics Decision Making. From North Vancouver, Saba loves Italian food, especially risotto. She currently works as a Business Analyst and enjoys walking her dog when she has some free time. We asked Saba a few questions about how she found CaseIT, what she does and how her experience has been so far.

How did you first hear about CaseIT and what made you want to join?

I first heard about CaseIT through MISA (management information systems association). I had an interest in learning more about event planning, and CaseIT combined that with my interest in case competitions and the MIS study as a whole.

Why did you choose to be a part of the Sponsorship Team?

Although I had no sponsorship experience beforehand, I do have 4 years of work experience as a sales associate. Working as a sales associate and within sponsorship require a lot of similar skill sets, such as confidence and persistence. Moreover, I like being able to contact and work with other people.

What do you do within the Sponsorship Team?

Sponsorship involves a lot of research! Due to the volume of work, we all do fairly similar tasks which include research, attending tech events, and contacting potential sponsors to find a mutually beneficial partnership.

What has been your favourite moment thus far with CaseIT and what are you most looking forward to?

My favourite moment so far was our social downtown where we did a scavenger hunt and later had a team dinner. Since this is my first year on the organizing committee, it allowed me to get to know everyone outside of Sponsorship much better. I’m most looking forward to the actual event itself! More specifically, showing the team I am hosting around Vancouver and hearing all the teams present their unique solutions.

Do you plan on coming back to CaseIT next year?

I definitely plan on coming back to CaseIT next year. Although I’m not sure yet what role, I am still interested in a position that allows me to contact many different people, such as University Relations or Entertainment and Hospitality.
