Eligibility, Rules & Policies
- All competitors must be current undergraduate students of Simon Fraser University as of September 2015
- All teams must have a total of 4 competitors
- Each team must have at least 1 student with less than 60 credits
- Each team must have at least 1 student with 60 credits or more
- Competitors must not competed or be training to compete in JDC West Academics at the time of registration
RULES & POLICIES
1.1 The InTech Organizing Committee reserves the right to change or update the rules.
1.2 The InTech Organizing Committee will have final say on all matters.
1.3 Only undergraduate students of Simon Fraser University are allowed to compete.
1.4 Past competitors from InTech 2015 are welcome to compete in InTech 2016 with the exception of first place winners.
1.5 The InTech Organizing Committee will not be providing coaches to competing teams. Should teams choose to consult with a coach of their choosing prior to the competition, they may do so independently.
1.6 Any and all coach consultations are permitted prior to the competition start date only. Teams will not be allowed to consult with any external parties including coaches and other competing teams from February 10th, 2016 to February 13th, 2016.
2.1 All teams must consist of four undergraduate SFU students. Students may register in full teams of four (given the team adheres to the above eligibility rules) or may register as partial team or individuals.
2.2 Registration is on a first come, first serve basis. The first 20 teams of four that have completed the online registration form and paid their registration fee in full will be allowed to compete.
2.3 Registration will be open until January 16th 2016, 11:59 pm.
2.4 Should registration exceed the maximum competitor capacity, individual competitors who have paid their registration fee but remain unmatched with a team will be given a full refund.
2.5 Registration fees are non-refundable unless an individual competitor is unable to be matched with a team before the January 16th deadline.
2.6 Should a competitor choose to drop out of the competition, it is the sole responsibility of that competitor to find a replacement by January 16th, 2016 or their team risks disqualification. Competitors that drop out must notify the InTech Organizing Committee right away and may request a competitor from the wait list take their position, however this is only applicable should a wait list exist. The replacement need not pay an extra $60 if taking the place of another competitor.
3. The Case
3.1 The case will be released to all competitors via email Wednesday February 10, 2016 and competitors will have 24 hours to analyze the case and put together a presentation.
3.2 The case to be used during the competition may be a published or unpublished business case with a strong focus in technology or MIS/IS/IT.
3.3 No person other than the case writer, InTech’s Faculty Advisors, and InTech judges are allowed to view the case prior to the start of the competition on Wednesday February 10th, 2016.
4.1 The competition will consist of a Preliminary Round and a Final Round of presentations.
4.2 The first place team from each tier within the Preliminary Round will advance to the Finals Presentations.
4.3 All presentations must be put together with PowerPoint. Other platforms will not be permitted.
4.4 Changes to PowerPoint decks will be permitted until the deadline to send final decks via email on February 11th, 10am. Changes between the submission deadline and the Preliminary round as well as between the Preliminary and Final Round of presentations will not be allowed.
4.5 Teams are not allowed to watch any competing teams’ presentations in the Preliminary Round.
4.6 Teams (other than the finalists that have yet to present) will be permitted to watch the Finalist Round of presentations at Segal Building. Finalist teams that have presented are permitted to watch the remaining finalists present.
4.7 All competitors must dress in business formal attire when presenting.
4.8 During the Q&A period of the presentations, competitors must answer the questions without consulting their teammates.
4.9 All competitors must be present at the competition venue by the end of the registration period.
4.10 Upon registering, all first round competitors must stay for the entire preliminary round on Friday February 12th and may not leave the venue at any point after their presentation. Failure to adhere to his rule will result in immediate disqualification.
4.11 Upon registering, all final round competitors must stay for the entire final round on Saturday February 13th and may not leave the venue at any point after their presentation. Failure to adhere to his rule will result in immediate disqualification.
5. Judging Guidelines
5.1 Judges will be critiquing competitors on the following:
- Case understanding
- Depth of analysis
- Question and answer management
- Presentation skills
5.2 All completed judging rubrics will be released to competitors up to two weeks following the end of InTech 2016.
